How do I decide what to submit as a Note rather than a Full Paper?
We've been getting this question a lot, especially since for CSCW 2008, both Notes and Papers will be reviewed using the same review process (same committee of Associate Chairs who will decide which Papers and
Notes will be accepted at a unified Papers and Notes committee meeting).
Basically, a Note is of a similar caliber as a Full Paper, but with a more focused scope or scale. In the 4 page limit of a Note, you really only have room to present one idea, but it's enough space to present the idea well. That is, it should have proper data, design rationale, explanation, justification, etc. to convince the reader that the idea makes a contribution to the field. But, by being focused, a Note can be more selective about the most relevant related work to review, can focus on the implementation details most relevant to the novel idea presented, can highlight a specific aspect of a study that stands out as a finding, revisit or update earlier work in a substantive way, or describe a novel design that hasn't been extensively tested.
